Black 3D printed equipment housing with mounting holes, holding a desktop computer, designed and printed by Formada3D
Our own design with screw holes and vent slots. Shown for print quality, not a customer job.

What goes into a custom enclosure?

Board & sensor housings

Shells sized to your PCB, with standoffs, cut-outs for connectors, buttons, LEDs and cables.

Mounts & brackets

Wall, DIN-style, pole or chassis mounts to suit where the device lives.

Cable entries & strain relief

Grommets and strain reliefs, with soft TPU parts where a cable needs to flex.

Lids, vents & fasteners

Screw-down or snap lids, vent slots for heat, and your logo or label text on the lid.

From one to a run

Prototype the fit, then order the same enclosure in quantity.

NFC inside

An NFC tag can be sealed into a printed part so a phone tap opens a web page.

The drawings show part types. They are illustrations, not customer projects.

Which material is best for an electronics enclosure?

PETG is the default for indoor devices. For outdoor or sunny spots, ASA is available on request.

We don’t claim an IP rating for printed enclosures. If the device has to survive rain, dust or washdown, tell us and we design for it and suggest testing a sample first.

What do you need from us to quote an enclosure?

  • A STEP of the board, or its outline, hole positions and the tallest component
  • Connector, button and cable positions
  • Where it lives: indoors, outdoors, on a robot, on a wall
  • Quantity, and whether you need an NDA first

Holes and slots print slightly undersize, so we design in clearance for screws, standoffs and mating lids, and can print a fit-test piece first. Plan on about ±0.2–0.3 mm on most features.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you design an enclosure around our PCB?

Yes. Send a STEP of the board, or its outline, hole positions and component heights, plus connector and cable positions. We model the enclosure in CAD, iterate with you, then print it.

Are 3D-printed enclosures waterproof?

We don’t claim an IP rating for printed enclosures. If a device has to survive rain, dust or washdown, tell us: we can add TPU seals and print in ASA (on request) for outdoor use, and suggest testing a sample before a run.

What tolerances can you hold?

Plan on about ±0.2–0.3 mm on most FDM features. Holes and slots print slightly undersize, so for bearings, press fits and mating parts tell us the fit you need and we design in the clearance or print a fit-test piece first.

How much does it cost?

Our instant quote prices by estimated material weight: A$0.15/g up to 100 g, A$0.18/g from 100 to 300 g and A$0.22/g beyond, from A$8 a job. A business minimum may apply to B2B jobs; we confirm the full price, including any minimum, before anything is printed.

How fast can you turn parts around?

We reply to custom enquiries within 24 hours. Most jobs are printed and shipped in 3–5 days depending on size; for larger quantities we confirm timing with the quote.

What files can I send?

STEP, STL or other CAD exports, or a sketch, photos and measurements. STL files get an instant estimate in our online quote tool at formada3d.com/quote; send STEP and other files to [email protected] and we quote them manually or model the part for you.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes, NDAs are available on request. Say so in your enquiry and we sort it out before you send any files.
