Heat resistance is the heat deflection temperature at low load (0.45 MPa) from the maker’s datasheet unless the card says otherwise. Typical values from manufacturer datasheets; printed parts vary with orientation and settings. Some makers test annealed samples, so un-annealed prints can soften sooner. Tolerances are what we quote for each process. Strength and flexibility are compared across our own materials on a 1–5 scale.

Values and suitable use

The figures on this page are typical values published by the material makers for the raw material, measured on standard test specimens. They are a guide, not a promise: a printed part’s real strength, heat resistance and accuracy depend on its design, wall thickness, print direction, settings and finishing. Unless we agree a written specification with you, our parts are made as prototypes or general-purpose parts. They are not designed, tested or certified for aircraft or aviation, vehicle safety systems, medical devices, life support, lifting or load-bearing safety equipment, pressure vessels, weapons, or any other use where a failure could injure or kill someone, and they are not approved for food contact unless we confirm it in writing. Do not use them for those purposes without your own engineering approval and testing. You are responsible for deciding whether a material and a part suit your application, and by ordering you confirm that you have done so. If a value matters for your job, tell us and we will help you test a sample first. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Full terms

FAQ

Common questions

Which 3D printing material is best for outdoor parts?

ASA is our best FDM choice for full sun and weather: it resists UV and softens only around 100 °C. PETG is fine outdoors for most parts. For tough end-use parts, MJF or SLS nylon also do well outside. Avoid PLA and standard resin outdoors.

What tolerance can you hold?

On our FDM printers, about ±0.2–0.3 mm on most features; holes print slightly small, so tell us the fit you need. For MJF, SLS, metal and industrial FDM we quote about ±0.3 mm or ±0.4 % of the size, whichever is larger, and for resin about ±0.2 mm or ±0.3 %.

Which material handles the most heat?

PEEK has the highest long-term rating of our plastics (about 240 °C). At low load, CF-nylon PAHT-CF (about 194 °C), MJF nylon PA12 (about 175 °C) and SLS nylon PA12 (about 145–157 °C) hold their shape best. PLA softens around 57 °C, PETG around 69 °C, ABS around 87 °C and ASA around 100 °C. All figures are the makers’ heat deflection temperatures at 0.45 MPa unless the card says otherwise. Stainless steel and titanium do not soften in normal use.

What is the difference between MJF and SLS nylon?

Both fuse nylon 12 powder without supports. MJF parts are grey, a little denser and very consistent from part to part, which suits production runs. SLS parts are white with a slightly more powdery surface; the glass-filled grade is stiffer and more heat-stable.

Are the values guaranteed?

No. They are typical values from the material makers’ datasheets for the raw material, rewritten in plain words (each card links to the datasheet). A printed part also depends on its design, wall thickness, print direction and settings. If a value matters, tell us and we will help you test a sample first. See “Values and suitable use” above.

Do you print weapons or export-controlled parts?

No. We don’t make weapons, weapon parts (including imitation firearms) or export-controlled items, and we refuse or cancel orders for them.
