Hydroponic tower kit for Australian 90 mm stormwater or 100 mm DWV PVC pipe: net-cup collars, top cap, base flange

Printed parts that turn a length of standard Australian PVC pipe standing in a 20 L bucket into a vertical hydroponic tower. Sized for DN90 stormwater pipe (90 mm outside) or DN100 DWV pipe (110 mm outside), from the pipe maker's published sizes; US 3 and 4 inch kits do not fit AU pipe. Each collar is a curved saddle held by two cable ties over a 51 mm hole-saw hole, holding a 2 inch net cup at 45 degrees with the cup reaching 13.6 mm into the water running down the inside wall; drips run back into the pipe. The top cap and rain tray spread the pump flow round the inside of the pipe, and the lid flange and clamp ring hold the pipe upright through the bucket lid. Black PETG to block light; printed to order in our Melbourne workshop.

Black 3D printed hydroponic tower parts: a round top cap, a rain tray, a wide flanged base ring and an angled net-cup collar
Studio render: made to order, real photos coming: the kit parts, collar, top cap, rain tray, lid flange and clamp ring, in black PETG.

Order status. Pipe sizes are from the pipe maker's published guides; the pipe's outside tolerance is not published, so the free coupon checks the cap and flange fit on your pipe. We suggest one collar on an off-cut first: drill a 51 mm hole, fit it with two ties, add a cup and pour water down the inside to watch it drain.

What does it look like in use?

Renders are computer images of our own design, made from the same model we print. This family is made to order: real photos of our first prints are coming.

Who it's for

Home and balcony growers, schools and community gardens who want a vertical hydroponic tower from hardware-store pipe instead of a commercial tower.

Safety & use

Installation & use. Designed for the uses described on this page only. Fixings are not included: use the sizes listed, check they are tight before use, and check the parts regularly for wear or damage. Not for safety-critical or overhead load-bearing use. Damage caused by misuse, modification or overloading isn't a fault in the product.

Water and food. PETG is not a certified food-contact material, and no printed part carries a food-safety certification. Indoor or shaded use; replace a part that turns cloudy, chalky or cracked. Rinse and clean with mild detergent or dilute hydrogen peroxide, not a dishwasher.

Water and power. Keep the pump's plug and power board well above and away from the bucket, use a pump made for submerged use, and follow its maker's instructions. Stand the tower on a level surface where a spill will not damage anything.

This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

FAQ

Common questions

Which pipe does it fit?

Australian DN90 PVC stormwater pipe (90 mm outside, AS/NZS 1254) or DN100 PVC DWV pipe (110 mm outside, AS/NZS 1260), the sizes sold at hardware stores. Choose the kit size to match your pipe. US 3 and 4 inch kits do not fit AU pipe.

How do the collars attach?

Drill a 51 mm (2 inch) hole with a hole saw for each collar, sit the collar's saddle over it so the key drops into the hole, and pull it tight with two cable ties. The cup sits at 45 degrees and reaches into the water running down the inside of the pipe.

What else do I need?

A length of pipe, a 20 L bucket with a lid, a small submersible pump with 13 mm poly line, 2 inch net cups, growing media, cable ties and 4 x M4 screws with nuts. None of these are included.

Is it food safe?

No printed part is certified food safe, and PETG is not a certified food-contact material. The parts are black PETG to block light; use the tower indoors or in shade (ASA on request for full sun) and replace any part that turns chalky or cracked.
