Sensor brackets, suction-cup arms and ISO 9409-1 tool-flange adapters for 2020 extrusion

Small robotics fittings for 2020 / 2040 aluminium extrusion and robot tool flanges, printed to order in PETG in our Melbourne workshop. Four sensor and limit-switch brackets (V-type lever microswitch, SS-5 / D2F subminiature, M12 inductive and GP2Y0A21-type IR distance) share one M5 T-nut base. Two suction-cup arms carry vacuum cups by their threaded stems. And two sizes of ISO 9409-1 tool-flange adapter (50-4-M6 and 31.5-4-M5) get a cobot onto 2020 extrusion or a gripper-plate hole grid while you prototype, before a metal adapter is machined.

Who it's for

Robotics integrators and university cobot labs prototyping end effectors, pick-and-place and packaging builders, and printer, CNC and gantry builders who need homing switches and sensors on extrusion.

Safety & use

Installation & use. Designed for the uses described on this page only. Fixings are not included: use the sizes listed, check they are tight before use, and check the parts regularly for wear or damage. Not for safety-critical or overhead load-bearing use. Damage caused by misuse, modification or overloading is not covered.

Robot tool-flange adapters. Printed adapters are for light tooling, prototyping and education, not production payloads. Keep tool mass and moments well inside what a plastic part can carry, follow your robot maker's tool-mounting instructions and your own risk assessment, check screw tightness before each use, and use a metal adapter for production. We print them with at least 4 walls and 40 % infill. They are made to the ISO 9409-1 hole pattern; they are not certified to it or to any other standard.

Limit switches. The brackets are for homing and positioning only, not for safety stops. Use rated safety devices for guarding.

FAQ

Common questions

Which robots do the ISO 9409-1 adapters fit?

Tool flanges built to ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6 (50 mm bolt circle, 4 x M6, 6 mm dowel), as used by UR e-Series and xArm according to their published flange drawings, and ISO 9409-1-31.5-4-M5 (31.5 mm bolt circle, 4 x M5, 5 mm dowel), the Robotiq Hand-E coupling pattern. A pilot boss and a dowel pin locate the adapter; the screws and pin are not included. Check your robot's flange drawing before ordering.

Can a 3D printed flange adapter carry my tool?

It is meant for light tools, prototyping and teaching. We print the adapters in PETG with at least 4 walls and 40 % infill (PETG-CF or PA-CF on request), but a plastic part carries far less than a machined one. Keep the tool mass and moments well inside its capability, follow the robot maker's tool-mounting instructions and use a metal adapter for production payloads.

Which switches and sensors fit the brackets?

V-type lever microswitches with the 22.2 mm hole pattern (for example Omron V series), SS-5 and D2F subminiature switches, M12 threaded inductive sensors such as the LJ12A3-4 type, and GP2Y0A21-type IR distance sensors with 37 mm holes. Every bracket has the same 20 mm wide base with an M5 slot for a T-nut in 2020, 2040 or 4040 extrusion.

What about KW12 or KW11-type switches?

Their hole pitch is not published, so the kit includes a 3 mm pitch coupon with hole pairs at 21.7, 22.2 and 22.7 mm. Try your switch's screws in each pair; the V-type bracket's slots cover 21.2-23.2 mm, and we can set the bracket to the pair that fits.

How do the suction-cup arms mount?

Each arm bolts to the side of a 2020 bar with two M5 T-nuts 20 mm apart. The cup stem passes through the arm and your lock nut clamps it on top. The holes are plain clearance holes: 5.5 mm for M5, 6.6 mm for M6 and 10.2 mm for G1/8 stems, or 16.5 mm for M16x1 spring plungers. The stem must be longer than the 4 mm web (6 mm on the plunger arm) plus the nut.
