Easy-open jar twist-aid (30-95 mm lids) and two-size bottle-cap opener with soft grip sleeves

Two easy-open kitchen helpers for anyone who finds jar lids and bottle caps hard to grip or turn. The jar twist-aid is a flat 205 mm lever with a V-shaped jaw lined with sawtooth teeth: slide it over any round lid from about 30 to 95 mm across, including 63, 70 and 82 mm twist-off jar lids, and the long handle does the work. Turn it over to tighten. The bottle-cap opener has two round heads with soft TPU grip sleeves: one for 28 mm drink and water caps, one for 38 mm juice and milk caps. Each sleeve's bore tapers, so caps of slightly different sizes all wedge in and grip. Comfort aids, not medical devices. Printed to order in PETG and TPU in our Melbourne workshop.

Jar twist-aidPETG, 205 x 120 x 9 mm, 70 degree V jaw with 1.5 mm sawtooth teeth on both sides, 128 mm handle, 8 mm hanging hole. Takes round lids about 30-95 mm across, including 63, 70 and 82 mm twist-off (lug) jar lids. The teeth bite when opening; turn it over to tighten. About 30 g
Bottle-cap openerPETG body, 180 x 64 x 20 mm, two round heads, each with a soft TPU 95A grip sleeve. Small head: 28 mm caps about 27.5-31.5 mm across (soft drink and water bottles). Large head: 38 mm caps about 36.5-44 mm across (juice and milk bottles). About 46 g plus 15 g of sleeves
Grip sleevesTapered bores with 24 / 30 soft ribs, so a cap wedges in wherever its edge meets the ribs. Four keys stop the sleeve turning in the body; a hole in each pocket floor lets you push a sleeve out to wash it
Sizes fromJar-lid sizes from published twist-off cap spec sheets (63 mm lid 66.2-66.6 mm across, 82 mm lid 85.0-85.3 mm). Bottle-neck sizes from the 28 mm and 38 mm neck-finish standards; cap outside sizes vary by maker, so a free cap test ring comes with the first order
MaterialPETG, 2 walls, 5 % infill: both tools bend in the plane of the print, so the walls carry the twist (about 8 MPa in the handle at a firm 50 N pull, against roughly 50 MPa for PETG). Sleeves TPU 95A, or 90A on request for a softer grip
Food contactTouches the outside of lids and caps only. PETG and TPU are not food-contact materials. Hand-wash, no dishwasher

Who it's for

Anyone who finds jar lids and bottle caps hard to grip or turn, families and carers buying for someone at home, retirement villages and community kitchens, and occupational therapists ordering for clients (we make the parts; we make no claims about outcomes).

Safety & use

Installation & use. Designed for the uses described on this page only. Fixings are not included: use the sizes listed, check they are tight before use, and check the parts regularly for wear or damage. Not for safety-critical or overhead load-bearing use. Damage caused by misuse, modification or overloading isn't a fault in the product.

Comfort aid, not a medical device. These tools give more leverage and a better grip on lids and caps. They are not designed to treat, relieve or manage any condition, and we make no therapeutic claims. If you need advice about aids for a health condition, ask a health professional.

Food and hygiene. The twist-aid and opener touch the outside of the lid or cap only, never the food or drink. PETG and TPU are not food-contact materials. Hand-wash in warm soapy water (no dishwasher). The TPU sleeves are small parts: keep them away from young children.

Glass jars. Hold the jar firmly on a cloth or non-slip mat and turn steadily. Never force a lid on a chipped or cracked jar, and stop if the glass flexes or the lid will not move.

This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

FAQ

Common questions

Which jar lids does the twist-aid fit?

Round lids from about 30 to 95 mm across. That covers the common 63, 70 and 82 mm twist-off jar lids (about 66, 73 and 85 mm across) and smaller sauce and spread lids. The V-shaped jaw has no fixed size: slide it over the lid until both toothed sides touch, then push the handle anticlockwise to open.

How do I tighten a lid with it?

Turn the twist-aid over. The sawtooth teeth are angled to bite in one direction, so the same tool opens with one face up and tightens with the other face up.

Which bottle caps does the opener fit?

The small head takes 28 mm caps about 27.5 to 31.5 mm across, which is most soft-drink and water bottles. The large head takes 38 mm caps about 36.5 to 44 mm across, which is most juice and milk bottles. Each soft sleeve has a tapered, ribbed bore, so a cap wedges in wherever it meets the ribs. A free cap test ring comes with the first order so you can check your own bottles.

Does it touch the food or drink?

No. The tools only touch the outside of the lid or cap, never the food or drink, so they are not food-contact items. PETG and TPU are not food-contact materials. Hand-wash them in warm soapy water; no dishwasher.

Is it a medical device?

No. These are everyday living aids, sold as ordinary consumer products in Australia. They give more leverage and a better grip, and we make no claims that they treat or relieve any condition. If you are choosing aids for a health condition, talk to a health professional.

Why plastic and not metal?

PETG is light, warm to hold, will not rust and is kind to lids and worktops. The handle and opener bend in the plane of the print, so the printed walls carry the load: a firm 50 N pull puts about 8 MPa into the handle, roughly a sixth of what PETG takes. The grip sleeves are soft TPU for traction on smooth plastic caps.
