RC crawler course tiles and gate markers, strap-on 1/18 roof rack and LED light bar (3 mm or 5 mm LEDs)

A small crawler trail you can build on a desk, garage floor or club table, plus two scale extras for the truck itself. The 150 mm course tiles come as flat grip, rock garden and ramp-and-ledge tiles. Every edge has one dovetail tab and one socket, so any tile joins any other in any rotation and lifts straight out again. Flat gate markers plug into sockets in each tile, or stand on their own round foot on the floor. The roof rack is a generic 58 x 74 mm basket for 1/18 bodies: it straps on through four side slots, so it needs no holes in the body. A light bar holds six 3 mm or four 5 mm LEDs and screws to the rack's front tab. Printed to order in PETG in our Melbourne workshop.

Who it's for

Micro and 1/18 scale crawler owners who want a trail at home, RC clubs and hobby shops running small indoor comps, and scale builders who want a roof rack and lights without buying body-specific parts.

Safety & use

Installation & use. Designed for the uses described on this page only. Fixings are not included: use the sizes listed, check they are tight before use, and check the parts regularly for wear or damage. Not for safety-critical or overhead load-bearing use. Damage caused by misuse, modification or overloading isn't a fault in the product.

Lights. The light bars are holders only: they have no electrical function. LEDs, resistors, wiring and the battery or light controller are yours to choose and fit; use the resistor or driver your LED and battery need, and keep wiring clear of moving parts. PETG softens near 70 degrees C, so keep hot LEDs and resistors off the plastic.

Small parts. Gate markers, light bars and tile pieces are small and can break into smaller pieces. Not a toy for children under 3, and keep RC models and their batteries out of reach of young children.

FAQ

Common questions

Which crawlers is the course for?

The tiles are sized for 1/24 and 1/18 scale crawlers. Four tiles make a short trail, and more tiles make a longer loop. The rocks are 7 to 24 mm tall and the ledge is 20 mm. Mix flat, rock and ramp tiles to set how hard the line is.

How do the tiles lock together?

Every edge has one dovetail tab and one dovetail socket, placed so that any edge meets any other edge. You can turn a tile any way round and it still joins its neighbours. Drop it in from above and lift it straight out to change the layout. There is a 0.2 mm clearance per side, so they go together by hand.

How do the gate markers work?

Each tile has four slots near its corners. A flat 76 mm flag marker plugs into any slot, and a collar stops it on the surface. For the floor between tiles, the marker plugs into a 44 mm round foot instead. Order markers in two colours to mark the left and right of each gate.

Will the roof rack fit my truck?

It is a generic 58 x 74 mm rack for 1/18 bodies with a flattish roof of at least about 60 x 75 mm. It has no body-specific mounts: a 10 mm hook-and-loop strap or an elastic band runs through four side slots, and thin foam tape under the flat floor helps on a curved roof. Straps and tape are not included.

Which LEDs fit the light bar?

Standard 3 mm (T-1) or 5 mm (T-1 3/4) through-hole LEDs with a rim, sized from the Kingbright datasheets. The 3 mm bar takes six LEDs and the 5 mm bar takes four. LEDs go in from the back and stop on their rim, and a drop of glue holds them. LEDs, resistors and wiring are not included.
